Over the past weeks with the Wyong Leadership team I have been reading “Integrity” by Henry Cloud. He says many pivotal things in his book about character and leadership in the context of integrity. He sees integrity as wholeness of character; character without compartmentalisation. Maybe it means having a ‘shalom’ character. I think we have simplified the idea of integrity over the years in our techno-grab media world. “Integrity is what you do when no one is watching”. Really? And “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.” You think? No true integrity has a greater richness and complexity than trite grabs. It is multifaceted and profound. It is based on character that is responsive to truth. We see our idea of Truth with a capital ‘T’ because it is based on the revelation of God Himself. Unfortunately, many Christians are not people of good character and integrity, and that’s disappointing. Maybe they can give Henry Cloud’s book a close and thoughtful read.
