DAGORETTI YOUTH CENTRE

Nairobi Kenya -- OBJECTIVES

1. The objective of the center is to provide basic education to the destitute/orphans children of the slum areas and its environs with special emphasis on the thousand of families affected by HIV/AIDS.

2. To expand the centre with provision of high school and trade school which will be catering for primary graduates.

ADMISSION

Our students are mostly girls and boys in difficult circumstances and this includes; street/slum and orphans children. Most of the students are admitted with flexible admission criteria where issues of age and other requirements are not given priority.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND CHALLENGES
ACHIEVEMENTS

We have been successfully in carrying out the education activities and general performance has been above average as indicated below:

YEAR NO. OF STUDENTS WHO SAT FOR STD. 8 NATIONAL EXAM
2003 13
2004 20
2005 27
2006 20
2007 44
2008 43
2009 36
TOTAL 203

We have succeeded amidst various challenges to give hope to hundreds of children's who could not make it to school due to effects of abject poverty in the slums.

CHALLENGES and CONSTRAINTS

Despite many challenges which we face/ encounter with the children, equipment and other resources; we try to utilize whatever we have in order to achieve the objective.
Most of the target families in the slum don't have any source of income; most can't put a single meal on the table. They cannot even buy a book for the children, can't afford even school uniforms. With this they can't even contribute to the school financial requirements.
Due to HIV/Aids related complications most of the children's suffer colds, skins problems and some even TB. We have challenges of attending to them and their families even in these conditions.

APPEAL
We appeal to you and your institution to consider the conditions of our children and give us chance of partnership with you and your friends in order to give hope to these orphaned and vulnerable children in the slums of Nairobi.

Finally let the world know what we are doing here.
