Teaching Position in Northern Ethiopia
My name is Stephanie Browning and my husband and I and our son William (3yrs old) live in Bahir Dar a town at the source of the Blue Nile in Northern Ethiopia. My husband works as a surgeon at the fistula centre there. This town has around a hundred foreigners but no school for foreign nationals. At the moment at least 16 children are being homeschooled there and there are several families all looking for a homeschool teacher. Before I came on home assignment - we arrived back here in Australia three weeks ago - I rented a house two doors down from us along with the support of several parents in Bahir Dar all with primary aged children currently in local schools or doing a homeschool curriculum. It is our intention, God willing that we find a Christian teacher who could live in this house and homeschool our children (6-12 children) all together. Although not all the parents are professing christians I hope that the ration of MKs to other TCKs will be about 60%-40% and with a christian teacher have a positive influence and this could be a wonderful ministry opportunity for the right person. So there is no school as yet just the intention and the compound - the house and the furniture ( I've had some desks etc made), the students but no teacher! And it will be up to the teacher to make it what they want...a one teacher school with a multi-age classroom of kids from different countries ( at the moment australian, german and american) all doing their different home school curriculums.. with the teacher there to help and supervise. We will pay the teachers airfare, rent and a small living allowance. We also need resources to start a library, books, games, equipment etc... anything we can find. I would, ideally like to find someone who could leave early January to begin teaching Jan 12, 2008, hopefully a qualified primary school teacher. This would also suit someone who is retired or a first year out. So I dont have much time! Also we may only be able to find someone for a few months at a time or to get a visa for a three months or six months although I am hoping we will be able to find someone who could go for a year at a time. So I will be constantly recruiting, if not for 2009, then for 2010, and 2011....
