NHI HOLDS FIRST INTERNATIONAL TRAINING SEMINAR
Rev R J Frisken AM
On January 7-11 New Hope International (NHI) held its first International Training Seminar to equip educators to become instructors and trainers in the Effective Teaching series being developed by NHI. The Seminar was attended by 37 delegates, the majority of whom came from PNG, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu. There was also a good representation of educators from Australia and New Zealand. NHI President Bob Frisken was assisted by David Baker (Principal of Orange Christian School) and Sue Skuthorpe (Principal of Charlton Christian College) in giving the ten lecture intensive training seminar which went from 9 am to 9 pm each day. The day program consisted of two lectures and two work shops. The evening programs were designed to give fellowship and practical training. The groups enjoyed the fellowship, practical activities and the games. God's presence was evident in all the sessions and many delegates reported that the seminar was life changing for them.

The Impact
Joash Maneipuri, Education Director of the SSEC in the Solomon Islands, spoke of how the training that had already been undertaken in schools in the Solomon Islands had led to revival in three schools. We praise God for the wonderful impact of this course of training. Karava Haivete, United Church in PNG, commented, "All the topics covered were relevant and important. Having attended the conference twice has strengthened and deepened my understanding. I feel confident I can facilitate a workshop for head teachers and teachers". Charlotte Letcher, a New Zealand teacher working in Samoa said, "It opened my eyes and heart and mind to a way of education that is pleasing to God - a way which honours Him and builds solidly the principles of God's Word tangibly and effectively into our schools and children. It highlighted areas of my own practice that need to align with God's Word. This course is an excellent guide". As a result of this conference there are now a number of people in several countries who have been equipped as trainers for the Effective Teaching Series Phase 1. With the rapid expansion of interest in the program this will enable NHI to continue to reach out in training teachers in many developing nations.
