School at Mwika
Imara Mission making an impact in Tanzania

There is now a vibrant functioning school operating at Mwika! Forty children have been attending the nursery (K1) in preparation for Primary 1 classes next year. They have been using the building pictured as a temporary classroom in preparation for the better facilities. Two teachers have been employed for the initial year and this has worked out to be really excellent for the children.
The construction of a school building comprising 2 class-rooms, teachers offices and storage space has commenced. In September-October a team from Maitland Baptist Church will be in Mwika to assist in finishing the construction. The new building will allow the school to grow in an orderly fashion. In a 4 year programme we hope to add a 2 classroom building each year until all 8 grades (K1-P6) have been

Mama Merino and Godsave consult with Mike Rothery and Chris Bullock , an Australian Board member on the preparations for the building of the school rooms.
Support
So far we have had donations to provide most of the money for the buildings—there is still a short fall of $14,000 out of a $30,000 total—and donations to cover the actual running of the school. It costs about (US)$1,600 a month and we will have to find some of this.
A Child Support Programme is in the process of being started to provide money for school fees, uniforms, feeding, medical help, Christian training and assistance to mothers and widows so that they can attain income generation skills.
This will be launched in October and promises to be a major force in assisting the school to function correctly. The initial asking monthly support is for AUD $40. The Community Development Project is tax deductible but there is some doubt about the child support programme obtaining this benefit which is why it has to be separate to the school and community development project.

The buildings will be of great benefit to the community
By this time next year it is anticipated that there could be between 100 and 150 children benefiting from this effort and by completion of the buildings there will be over 500 children and their families being impacted. This will make a huge difference in the community around the project. With all else that is being planned there will be a genuine transformation of much of this area.
Pastor Marino and his wife have the immediate oversight of the running of the school with a multi denominational local committee and these answer to the staff of the Imara Foundation in Arusha under the overall charge of Mike and Lyndall Rothery, Australian Missionaries who have been in Tanzania since the mid 90’s. Imara’s Mercy Department is the responsibility of Godsave who manages a fine local staff in a balanced wholistic program.
