Challenge of a New Paradigm for Teaching
The President of New Hope International, Rev Bob Frisken AM challenged the nearly 500 staff members who attended the THACCCSA Regional Staff Day Conference - 2006 held at Maitland Christian School to change their learning and teaching paradigm. The conference started on each day with an inspiring time of worship led by teachers from Wyong Christian Community School. The Principal of Hunter Christian School Dr Stephen Fyson interviewed Bob Frisken with an Andrew Denton style of interview and set the scene for Bob's two addresses on "The Challenge to be a Holistic Learning Community". In the first address, Bob spoke of the Need for Change. He explained that moist school taught from a schooling/Instructional paradigm concerned primarily with giving information and skill training. He traced the historical and asocial conditions that led to the development of this paradigm but called for a return to a more biblical paradigm based on an understanding of teaching in a learning community. Copies of the two addresses may be downloaded from the link on the left hand column of this page, Files (Resources) in the folder Addresses and Lectures)

The Character of a Learning Community
In his second address Bob spoke of “The Character of a Holistic Learning Community”. He pointed out that God‘s creational purposes included having a people for Himself of those who are called by faith to be made one in His Son Jesus Christ. Thus for a Christian school to be truly Christina it needed to reflect the purposes of its Creator and be a Christian learning community. Like the Church it needed to be concerned to 1. Proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom 2. Act in loving service to all people everywhere and to work for shalom 3. Give evidence of shalom The early Church was in many ways a model for such a community. The Bible gives clear principles on the character of a godly learning community

Enthusiastic Response
Sue Skuthorpe and Maryanne Frisken presented a challenge for people to be involved in the ministry of New Hope International as it brings an inservice education training program in Effective Christian Teaching to equip principals of schools in Solomon Island and PNG to train their own staff. In response to the talk several teachers and executives volunteered to be involved and over $5,000 was donated in an offering taken up to assist the ministry of New Hope International. We praise God for the warm hearted response of the teachers and executives of schools in the Taree, Hunter and Central Coast region of NSW. A copy of the PowerPoint presented at the conference can be downloaded from the link below.
